We had a great time at yesterday’s #SFPhotohunt with the Contemporary Jewish Museum. Thanks to everyone for coming out. Thanks to the judges. And a big thanks to Kathryn and the CJM for hosting such a fun event. We had around 200 participants, which is awesome, so thanks again for coming out. We had five different photo challenges, here are the winners for each category:
This Sunday, January 13th, we’ll be hosting the #sfphotohunt with our friends at the Contemporary Jewish Museum in San Francisco. It’s an #instawalk with a historical twist, join us for a photographic scavenger hunt and panel discussion inspired by the exhibition “The Radical Camera: New York’s Photo League 1936–1951.” Participation in the hunt earns you free admission to the CJM, where you can get lost in midcentury New York…until it’s time to win a $200 gift certificate to Photojojo!
1pm–3pm // Meet on the Plaza in front of the Contemporary Jewish Museum to receive your scavenger hunt assignments. Winner of the hunt will be determined by expert judges, including Jessica Zollman (@jayzombie!).
3–3:30pm // Show an #SFphotohunt entry and receive free admission to the Museum.
3:30-4pm // We’ve come a long way since the 35mm camera first gave the Photo Leaguers the ability to take photography to go. Grab a Taylor’s Tonic from the Fizzary, purveyors of all things old-timey, sweet, and bubbly, and listen in on a panel discussion on mobile photography with our esteemed judges including Pete Kiehart, SF Chronicle Visuals Editor; Vince Donovan, Photographer and Owner of Photobooth; Travis Jensen, SF Street Photographer.
4pm // Winners Announced! Best photo of the day receives a $200 gift certificate to Photojojo, and best photo from the #SFphotohunt contest overall wins a Lytro camera (learn more about the ongoing #SFphotohunt contest at http://www.thecjm.org/sfphotohunt).
Our #instawalkDC photo walk is this Saturday! I’m so excited to meet folks in the area and take some pics at dusk. We’ll be meeting at The Castle (1000 Jefferson Drive Southwest) at 4:30 and walking North through the mall for a few hours. We’ll be ending up for drinks and mobile photography talk at the Rocket Bar (714 7th Street Northwest) at 6:30. We’ll be using the #instawalkDC tag during the walk. Got friends in DC? Help spread the word!
Thanks to our friend Scott Stead for the help planning!
Meet on the steps of the Castle
We are really excited to be partnering up with Flipboard for our next Instawalk in San Francisco. The Flipboard crew already have some experience turning Facebook and Twitter feeds into magazine-esque layouts that are great to look at, so we can’t wait to see how the #InstawalkSF photos look in their new Instagram viewing mode. Especially on iPad.
This mobile photo walk is open to anyone, just be sure to sign up here to see the full details. We’ll be starting off at Warm Water Cove, a really cool hidden park in the Dogpatch area, then walking towards 16th street and taking photos.
What are you doing this weekend? If it doesn’t involve getting out and taking pictures with other cool people… then cancel your plans! It’s a big weekend for Instawalks and Instagram themed meet-ups… here are just a few:
Tonight in Sacremento will be a great night for this adventure theme photo walk at 6pm. Deets here.
ASPP Los Angeles is having an instaparty Sat. 7/28- guided tour of Downtown LA landmarks. Deets here.

We are super excited to have a chance to hang out at Comic Con for a few days next week, especially since it means we’ll be able to hang out with Pacificyo during the San Diego Instawalk. From Pacificyo’s site:
MEETING PLACE: 5pm @ The reflecting pool at the Botanical Garden
The INSTAWALK will be from 5-7pm with a somewhat predefined route already planned and a few surprises/contests along the way. POP Thursdays will be 7-10pm. It is a 21+ event, and you can find more info here, or by clicking here.
More details on what exactly we’ll be doing at Comic Con to come soon.
update: Due to unforeseen circumstances, @igerssv is postponing the instahike planned for Russian Ridge this Saturday, June 23rd. A new date will be announced later this summer. We apologize for any inconvenience. Thank you!
“Come out for the first ‘Evening Instahike’ with @igerssv! Sat. 6/23/2012 at 6:30pm at Russian Ridge Open Space above Redwood City.”
The Bay Area is lucky to have so many Instagram and mobile photography related groups, but not every city has such a thriving mobile photography scene (yet). Since we get so many requests, we decided to put together this nifty video explaining the ins and outs of putting together your own Instawalk.
An Instawalk is a photo walk where folks edit and share their photos as they walk, using hashtags likes #instwalkSF or #instawalkNYC to stay connected. If you’d like to host your own Instawalk, simply pick a date and a photogenic location, then start spreading the word with your friends on Facebook, Twitter, EyeEm, and Instagram.
We’d love to help too! Let us know about your Instawalks or mobile photography related events and we’ll be sure to help spread the word. We’ll also send you a packet of name tags and other goodies!
IGersSF and Postagram present: InstawalkSF-
